Hybrid Cars

A hybrid car is a car that uses more than one type of energy.  It has an electric motor and it also uses gasoline.  The first car that every ran on a electric motor was created in 1900.  Ever since then there have been attempts by many companies to create hybrid vehicles but none of  them ever succeeded until now.  For example in 1993 Bill Clinton tried to convince some car companies to create hybrid cars but that project didn't work.

Hybrid cars are designed so they will not use as much gas as a regular car, since it won't use as much gas, it won't make as much carbon dioxide and that won't hurt the environment.  Hybrid cars work by using gasoline to fuel electric batteries which run an electric motor.  The car's battery needs to be recharged like any other battery so it uses kinetic energy and waste products of the combustion engine which also helps it run to refuel.  Since it uses an electric motor it has much better gas mileage than other cars.  Some new things that are being done with hybrid cars are that some taxi companies are starting to use them because they get better gas mileage in stop and go situations not while continually moving.
